Description
Summary:Software industry is emerging as an engine of growth in India’s national economy and a substantial earner of foreign exchange. Internationally, India is now recognised as a strong player in software. This industry has done well in respect of several indicators, such as productivity, profitability, and export. Its weak points mainly relate to R&D, marketing and inter-linkages within the national economy. This is mainly because of the — predominance of low-end software services in its production programme. Strategic implications arising from this have to be kept in mind while framing policy directions for the industry. The thrust should be particularly towards high value added activities and increased productivity.
