| Summary: | In Trivandrum even though a solid waste management system does exist, it does not function properly due to various reasons. Authorities are spending significant resources to address this problems but the overall situation is far from satisfactory. The focus of this paper is to evaluate the present situation of the municipal solid waste management in Trivandrum, with emphasis on unscientific landfills of solid waste. It also tries to find the challenges faced by the present system in Trivandrum city. A proper management plan including mitigation measures and monitoring program should be implemented in the system to prevent or minimize the potential impact of landfills on the environment |
